This is a pretty good example of how knitters are nearly always fundamentally good people. Earlier this year an oil spill in New Zealand affected lots of tiny little penguins and a call went out asking for people to knit penguin-sized jumpers to help protect them from the effects of the oil.
The appeal was overwhelmed with jumpers to the point that they had to ask people to stop sending them and here’s a clip of the little penguins being allowed back out again, sporting their snazzy little knits.
I have a real soft spot for penguins. So much so that once I’ve finished the last few Purly Queen Christmas orders and the Christmas presents that are still on my to-knit list (eek – Christmas is NEXT WEEK!), I’m hoping to make some of these woolly penguin decorations as decorations for our tree.
